ABOUT
Basic Income Conversation (BIC)
Basic Income Conversation (BIC), led by Cleo Goodman, sparks discussions about basic income all over the UK—from kitchen tables to boardrooms. They’re building a dynamic network of cross-party politicians and activists to push basic income to the forefront of political conversations. In 2023, BIC transitioned from Compass to join think tank Autonomy, ramping up their efforts and expanding their impact.

Universal Basic Income (UBI) is key to moving towards a world of care.
Grassroots action and knowledge-sharing among communities, organisations, and policymakers are crucial. With poverty, income inequality, and mental health issues high in the UK, we funded BIC to kickstart the conversations that will make UBI a realistic policy option here.
Basic Income Conversation has worked with hundreds of local people across the UK…
… and key politicians from major parties. They’re a go-to hub for info and advocacy on basic income. Their work has been crucial to several basic income pilots, including the care leavers pilot in Wales that’s already underway, and potential pilots in London and Northern England.
BIC raised awareness and understanding of basic income so the public can effectively advocate for a basic income.
BIC built institutional, political and civil society support for basic income through community consultations on local pilots.
BIC laid the foundations for a basic income micro-pilot by 2025.
