ABOUT
Basic Income Earth Network (BIEN)
BIEN is the only global network supporting basic income knowledge and making UBI a hot topic worldwide. They’re boosting local groups and setting up regional hubs to drive UBI advocacy. With new networks in Africa and Asia, they’re building a powerful global movement. By countering attacks and spreading UBI knowledge, they’re crucial for transitioning to a fairer, care-focused economy.
Contribution of Mustardseed Trust
We believe that Universal Basic Income is key to a thriving care economy and regenerative food systems.
BIEN stands out as the world’s only global basic income network. What started as a volunteer-led effort is now powered by a dedicated secretariat. Our support has enabled BIEN strengthen its structure and drive UBI advocacy across Africa and Asia.
In 2023, BIEN teamed up with the UN’s Executive Office of the Secretary-General…
…which saw UBI as a powerful peacebuilding tool. Thanks to this collaboration, UBI was featured in the Secretary-General’s A New Agenda for Peace, encouraging nations to explore it for conflict prevention, livelihood recovery, and boosting social cohesion.
BIEN has accelerated operations in Africa and Latin America, set up advisory boards, and is gearing up for a regional conference in Latin America.
BIEN secured additional funding from Lankelly Chase and The Institute and is actively collaborating with networks like UBI-E in Europe.
